History
In the 19th century the Moszna estate was bought by the Silesian industrialist Hubert von Tiele-Winckler, whose family turned an older Baroque manor into one of the most extravagant residences in Silesia. After a fire late in the century, Franz Hubert von Tiele-Winckler rebuilt the central section and in the early 20th century added neo-Gothic and neo-Renaissance wings. The result is an eclectic building crowded with towers, turrets and spires. The family left in 1945, and after the war the castle served as a sanatorium and hospital. Today it is open to visitors and used for tourism and cultural events.
What to see
Tours cover the grand interiors, including the hall with its carved wooden staircase, the library, the chapel and the salons, while outside the many-towered silhouette is the main attraction. The castle sits in a large park with ponds, canals and an avenue of limes. In spring the azaleas and rhododendrons bloom and the castle holds its best-loved festival.
