History
A manor of the lords of Rzeszów stood on the southern tip of the hill above the Wisłok as early as the Middle Ages. Before 1610 the castellan of Sandomierz, Mikołaj Spytek Ligęza, turned it into a fortified manor, in 1620 into a four-sided palazzo in fortezza, and in 1624 he surrounded it with a rampart. From 1637 the residence belonged to the Lubomirski family, who enlarged it with the help of Tylman van Gameren (from 1682) and in the 18th century ringed it with earthen bastions. In 1820 the Austrian authorities took it over for a court and prison. The dilapidated palace was pulled down, and in 1902–1906 the present building rose in its place, keeping the lower part of the gate tower.
What to see
The four-winged building stands amid well-preserved bastions and a moat, and the courtyard is entered through the old gate tower. It is the seat of the regional court, so the interior is not open to visitors, but you can walk around the ramparts and moat. The Lubomirski Summer Palace is nearby, and Rzeszów's Old Town begins a few steps away.
